HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR WOOL KNITWEAR

AIRING WOOL KNITWEAR

Wool and merino wool knitwear have self-cleaning properties and rarely require frequent washing.

  • Air your knitwear instead of washing it.
Ideal airing conditions: cool, misty mornings with light wind.
  • Hang garments outdoors, away from direct sunlight.
  • If airing indoors, drape the garment over a chair for several hours.
  • Always let the fabric dry completely before folding and storing.

Avoid washing the entire garment if only a small area is stained.

  • Gently brush the stain without rubbing.
  • Dab with a damp cloth or sponge and mild soapy water.
  • Use special wool spot cleaners for tougher stains.

For heavy stains, professional dry cleaning may be necessary.

Hand washing is the safest method for wool garments.

Instructions:

  1. Turn the garment inside out.

  2. Use water at 30°C and a wool-specific detergent (no enzymes or bleach).

  3. Soak no longer than 6 hours.

  4. Gently squeeze (do not rub or wring) for 5–10 minutes.

  5. Rinse with water at the same temperature until clear.

Drying:

  • Place the knit flat between two towels to absorb water.
  • Reshape and lay flat to dry.

Avoid direct sunlight.

Only use the wool cycle with a gentle spin (400–500 rpm).

Instructions:

  1. Turn the garment inside out.

  2. Use wool detergent only.

  3. Wash one item at a time to ensure enough water.

  4. Select a wool wash program at 30°C.

Drying:

  • Lay flat on a towel and shape while damp.
  • Optionally steam using the “wool” iron setting.
  • Avoid tumble drying and sunlight exposure.

Dry cleaning is recommended for wool coats and delicate items.

  • Inform your dry cleaner about wool-specific care.
  • Avoid improper cleaning methods, which may damage the colour and softness.

Proper storage helps prevent damage and extends the life of your garments.

  • Fold and store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.
  • For long-term storage, use cotton or linen bags that allow the wool to breathe.

Clothes moth larvae (not the moths themselves) can damage wool.

Prevention Tips:

  • Use natural moth repellents: lavender, wormwood, eucalyptus.
  • Regularly air and clean storage areas.
  • Avoid chemical mothballs as they can also be harmful to humans.
  • Extreme heat (70°C) or freezing temperatures (-20°C) can eliminate moths.
  • If infestation is detected, clean thoroughly and store safely.
