What makes Kauni knitwear special? Since its early years, Kauni has maintained consistent values across materials, production processes, and other core principles. Kauni knitwear is not simply Estonian wool knitwear – garments and accessories – it is a deep bow to Nordic craftsmanship, natural materials, and timeless design. Every knitted piece carries the same values: genuine craftsmanship, sustainability, and comfort. But what does that actually mean?

100% wool sheep

100% pure wool – nature’s own perfect material

One of the distinguishing features of Kauni knitwear is the purity and natural quality of its materials. Kauni knitwear is natural. 100% wool – Kauni uses classic sheep’s wool, which is naturally breathable, temperature-regulating, moisture-absorbing, and durable.

  • Wool regulates body temperature, breathes, and keeps you warm even in cool conditions. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture without the wearer of a wool garment feeling dampness. This is a very important property for maintaining body temperature.
  • Wool is a durable material, and wool clothing can last a long time.
  • Wool products do not retain odours and stay fresh for a long time.

Because of all these properties, Kauni wool knitwear is suitable for everyday wear both indoors and outdoors.

Merino wool – exceptional softness and comfort

In addition to classic wool, Kauni also uses 100% merino wool, which is especially fine and skin-friendly. Merino wool is also an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin.

100% merino wool – ultra-fine merino adds exceptional softness and a luxurious feel to knitwear, making it an ideal choice for people who value extremely comfortable, caressingly soft garments.

  • Thanks to its natural properties, merino wool is gentle on the skin and lightweight. It can be worn directly against the skin.
  • Merino wool naturally repels dirt and odours that may accumulate on the knitwear.

Merino knitwear is an ideal choice for those seeking luxurious yet practical pieces.

Certificates that confirm quality and safety

Kauni does not leave quality to chance. The yarns used are internationally certified, ensuring safety for both the wearer and the environment. Kauni has not followed the trend of continually adding acrylic yarn and other synthetic materials to wool to lower prices. Kauni is honest. Wool is 100% wool, and merino wool is 100% merino wool. No compromises and no vague talk. Kauni’s collection consists of natural knitwear. The quality of the materials has not been merely a claim; certificates confirm their quality, value, and safety.

  • Kauni yarns have the Woolmark certificate, an international quality standard for pure, certified wool.
  • In addition, the merino yarns are Oeko-Tex certified, meaning they do not contain harmful chemicals and are safe for human health. These certificates provide confidence that Kauni knitwear is tested, honest, durable, and skin-friendly.

Production made in Estonia – craftsmanship and precision together

Kauni knitwear is made in Pärnu – here, in this beautiful Estonian town, Kauni designs everything. In Pärnu, all production is knitted in our own knitting workshop and sewn together right down to the last stitch. A short supply chain is important to us. But even more important is that we have made a conscious choice to be present throughout the entire production process, to be confident in our high quality and to control every step.

Sustainability in production – Estonian craftsmanship with high technology

Traditional craftsmanship:
Since the brand’s early years, we have used hand-operated knitting machines that only a few people can operate at the skill level of our master knitters. Each garment is made with care, love, and attention in every loop and every stitch. Ultimately, you can see the masters’ skilled hands and dedicated spirit.

Modern technology:
Craftsmanship – and the high quality that comes with it – is key in our company. Precision, reliability, and production growth are supported by a modern machine park that does not compromise on quality and continues our value-based approach.

A carefully thought-through production process:
Quality does not happen by accident. It is the result of a sequence of well-planned work processes, especially precisely established in a craft-industry company. Only in this way can we produce both standard and special sizes. Not everyone is standard-sized, and we have decided to offer warm knitwear to a portion of our customers who are not standard-sized.

Knitting according to the chosen pattern and cut:
Absolutely all our knitwear is knitted to shape. This means that we never knit fabric that is later cut out according to a pattern. Knitting to shape ensures product quality: the knitwear will not stretch, change shape, or change size. Each knitted piece is measured after knitting.

Then it is washed and dried. After that, it is measured again. Steamed and measured again. Skilled sewing and finishing all by hand, along with steaming, ensure that every detail meets a high standard. The finished product undergoes an additional quality control. Only in this way is it possible to knit wool – as a living material – according to a size chart and also in special sizes, while ensuring ideal quality.

This production process is characterised by methodical work, patience, and mastery—love for one’s craft. The result is knitwear that keeps its shape and beauty even after years of wear. Each Kauni knitwear piece is like a genuine masterpiece that carries thought, good energy, and value.

Comfort, durability, and timeless design

Kauni knitwear does not follow fast fashion trends. It is designed to be timeless and durable, suitable for different styles and seasons. Thanks to natural wool and thoughtfully designed cuts, it offers maximum wearing comfort.

Individuality and adaptability

Kauni does not produce mass manufacturing in large quantities.

Instead:

  • We offer small quantities and production based on orders.
  • There is an option to order customised knitwear made exactly to your measurements.

This personal approach means that your Kauni knitwear is not just another sweater on a shelf – it is an item in harmony with your body and your style. Since the collection is very large and we can make all our models for you – including models designed up to 30 years ago – there is no fear that all wool lovers will dress the same. Kauni design is timeless, offering a wide and diverse range of knitwear to suit your style.

A sustainable, ethical, and conscious choice

Kauni knitwear is part of slow fashion. Natural wool is a renewable and biodegradable material, and local production helps reduce environmental impact.

Kauni’s principles are not limited to using high-quality wool:

  • A short supply chain and local production help reduce the ecological footprint.
  • The origins of materials and the well-being of workers are integral to the brand’s ethical approach.
  • Wool is biodegradable, renewable, and nature-friendly—the opposite of fast, disposable fashion.

As a result of conscious and ethical choices, Kauni’s collection includes only sustainable wool garments.
